A Quick Bread is a flour mixture that is leavened with baking soda or baking powder to make it rise quickly. Pancakes are a quick bread and they are great anytime!
Pancakes
Ingredients:
250ml flour
15ml white sugar
10ml baking powder
1ml salt
1 egg
250ml milk
30ml oil
5ml oil for pan (do not put in batter)
Method:
Do Lab Prep.
Put the electric frying pan on top of the wooden cutting board to remind you that it is hot and to protect the counter from burns. BE CAREFUL! BE SAFE!
Plug in the cord safely and correctly. Turn the heat to 350°F.
Measure and mix all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl all at once.
In a separate bowl, beat together all liquid ingredients.
Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients all at once.
Mix only until the ingredients are combined. DO NOT OVERMIX. The batter should be lumpy.
Test the pan for sizzle by flicking several drops of water onto the surface.
Oil the pan with 5ml of oil. (or use margarine)
Use the 80ml dry measure to scoop batter into the pan. The pancakes should not touch the edge of the griddle or touch each other, as this makes them hard to turn over.
Turn pancakes when the small bubbles on the top surface burst and do not fill in. The top surface will lose it's shiny appearance and the edges will be turning golden brown.
Flip the pancakes once, and cook until golden brown.
Set your table and eat as a family. :)
Clean up the kitchen. The electric frying pans CANNOT be submersed in water. Wipe with a damp cloth inside and out, as well as the cord.
