School Mission

At North Saanich Middle School we are committed to supporting every student as each

strives to reach their potential; providing every student with the opportunity to learn in a

caring and respectful middle school environment.

School Context

North Saanich Middle School serves the North Zone of the Saanich School district. Three elementary schools; KELSET, Deep Cove, and Sidney feed into the school and, in turn, students from North Saanich move to Parkland Secondary to begin grade nine. The community served is comprised of the town of Sidney and the municipality of North

Saanich. The total population of the area is approximately 21,000 people. The percentage of seniors within the population is one of the highest in the province. Families served by NSMS represent a wide range of socio-economic levels. In contrast, property values in many areas that the school serves are some of the highest in the Capital Regional District.

Approximately 40% of the students come from single parent or blended families. The school also has a growing First Nation population and has students from the Pauquachin, Tsawout and Tseycum communities. There is a well-established scientific sector within the community that is anchored by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Centre, Parks Canada and the Federal Plant Research Station. Although there is a growing light industrial centre, the majority of families in the community commute to Victoria for work purposes. NSMS has experienced a modest decline in the past several years, with a current enrolment of 400 students.
