The NSMS Learning Commons is looking for a number of parent volunteers to help with various jobs. We are looking for parents who are willing to become:

Reading Mentors: (two advisory blocks per week 9:05-9:38)

  • Students benefit so much from reading to, or being read to, one-on-one. We plan to hold a meeting of those interested to share some reading strategies which we hope will help our students strengthen their reading skills.

Resource Maintenance: (a couple of hours each week)

  • We are looking for people to train to help us shelve books, keep our space orderly, help process new books (labelling, taping corners, re-enforcing spines), and do various other odd jobs.

Special Event Helpers: (on call as needed)

  • We need help running, managing and setting up various special events such as author visits and our Scholastic Bookfair in December.

Other ways to help: We love donations of gently used books books and board games. Please feel free to donate materials for younger children as well. We are collecting for Peninsula Connections for Early Childhood (PCEC) 1000 x 5 Children's Book Recycling Project.

If you are interested in helping out please contact Mrs. Darcy McNee at dmcnee@sd63.bc.ca. Please include contact information and list the job you are interested in helping out with.
